Riverdale Standard Office Bookcase with Adjustable Shelves

Smooth process from start to delivery for this beautiful bookcase. We ordered two and they aligned together very nicely for our desired “library nook” space. Easy to assemble - just note that two of the shelves go in as part of the assembly as the sides are put together.

I put 3 in a row. I kinda wish it was a little nicer for the price, but they will work. BE CAREFUL when you attack the thin backing. The pre-drilled holes may lead you to drill the screws from the back in through the front area and damage the side of your shelf in a way that is visible.

Arrived with missing, damaged, and wrong parts. It shipped with two left side panels instead of one right and one left, so it couldn't be assembled. It also didn't arrive with 4 of the 10 hardware packs, among these were the heavy bolts that hold the base together. The wood base was also severely chipped in several places and dirty. It says this was made in 2021, so it seems like warehouse inventory. Very disappointed. UPDATE: upon request, they did ship a replacement right side panel, but this arrived wrong too. The base attachment is too tall, so if added the right side sticks out half an inch. Also, the holes are wrong where the middle shelf connects. I am requesting yet another right side panel. Another Update: After 2 months since I had ordered the bookshelf, the replacements finally arrived. This time they sent an entirely new unit instead of just the right side wall, so that is fairly generous. I was able to use the best pieces from either set to assemble the bookshelf. It still looks pretty rough considering that it is new, but it is finally put together.

This bookcase was selected over three others in this price range due to weight, design features, and the quality of real wood in its construction. The outer box arrived Fed Ex, 5 days after I placed the order (one day ahead of scheduled arrival), and was extremely well protected with outer edge bumper guards. All the pieces arrived undamaged, wrapped safe and secure in inner Styrofoam. Looks as if the the sides and part of the base are made of manufactured wood with veneer. The ornamental trim, top piece, and shelves are solid wood. Assembly took 45 minutes. Make sure you insert the wood dowels into the top and bottom piece center holes before attaching the sides... I almost forgot. The rear/back back panel is not some cheap cardboard, but a piece of plywood stained to match the finish, and is attached flush to the frame with 24 screws! This is one solid/sturdy piece of quality furniture once assembled. Three stickers on the back panel and numerous other small stickers were peeled off with ease. It was the "Warning Sticker" on the inside right side that was a major problem. The adhesive used on this sticker was very sticky and did not peel off as easily as the others (it took 30 minutes by fingernail). I was able to get the remaining residue off with Goo Gone Spray Gel. The manufacturer should have placed this sticker on the back panel with the other three, not on the actual visible wood finish. My recommendation would be to pull this piece out and apply the Goo Gone, letting it sit overnight, and wiping/removing the sticker the next day. It is this reason that I lowered the review one star. The shelves are 3/4" thick solid wood, and are accompanied with really nicely padded, heavy metal shelf pins. I wouldn't screw the 8 provided shelf pins into the shelves, as described in the instructions, because I want the flexibility to adjust the shelf heights if need be in the future. This is a great addition to my home office, the cherry/darker finish matching my 3 unit wall bookcase, wood desk and curio. This unit is deep enough to store my binders, books, and a printer on top.

Five stars because it is as advertised: an attractive, easy-to-assemble bookcase of quality matching its price. It is a dark cognac color--darker than cherry or mahogany. Has a solid feel to it and looks more expensive than it is. Exactly what I wanted.

Perfect size. Very nice quality. Took me about an hour to put together by myself.

Nice shelf. Heavy. I would have given 5 stars if there weren’t scratches, chips and cracks on the shelves and side panels. Luckily the worst of it is on the backside of the piece.

Well, the end result is good. Getting there was not. I have put together many of these types of furniture pieces and I actually usually enjoy the process. This was not fun. The holes were all slightly off and there was not a step by step instruction guide. There was only an exploded parts diagram. Plus, there was polystyrene foam everywhere! This kinda freaks me out since I had to take one of my cats to the Vet because she ate some foam pellets from a previous shipment. The other thing is that the inside back panel of the bookcase is actually a dark grey finish that is not really evident from the photos. The description says that it is finished on the back and can be a room divider. However, I decided to reverse the back panel so the nice wood finish showed from the front and the rustic grey went on the back against the wall. I wasn’t going to use it as a room divider, so it worked out. It looks good all finished, but was a pain getting it there
